A weekend getaway adventure in Västra Götaland, Sweden. Packrafting the rapids of Säveån in the autumn flood and collecting mushrooms in the woods of Alefjäll.

Säveån is an easy accessible river. 30 minutes away from Gothenburg by public transportation and a river guide is online here in Swedish: http://www.bohusvals.se/fg_savean.htm. We paddled the river section between the train stations of Floda and Stenkullen with two major rapids the Kusaforsen (graded 3-4) and the S-kurvan (graded 2-3).

Huge thanks to Alpacka Raft, Forrest McCarthy and Mike Curiak!

Mark, you do realize that boat is going to put me in the poor house!?!?

Super stoked.

Despite there being a large number of female packrafters out there most of the videos I see of packrafting tend to highlight males in action. So I thought it was about time that I personally made an effort to highlight some of the amazing times that women such as my wife Jen and many of our friends have whilst packrafting. This short video features four women rock’n’ the Colorado down through the Grand Canyon…

Still pics and a few words to explain the trip can be found here:

FWIW, Brad was in a Llama, Roman and Doom were in Yak’s, and I was in a production Alpackalypse.

Mike, I’m not sure it’s possible for you to post a bad video…

Definitely another inspiring adventure, and thank you for sharing.

And FWIW, I hope Roman found some peace and solace on the trip.

Inspirational Mike, thanks!

…overnighter with 5 others in the Klymit lwd. They held up well in the class II rapids. No tears. I would like to try one out in some class III now.

Packrafting in the atlas mountains in Morocco. To early for the spring snow melting flood I manage to packraft the Ouirgane Reservoir the beautiful N’fiss River gorge below the dam.

In the spirit of cummunity, I thought I would go ahead a post a video of my very simple white river runs. Just starting out (as you can see from my gear) so please be kind. 9 times out of 10 I am running solo which makes filming both fun and challenging. The camera is just a simple CCD that I built a splash-proof case for and use a gorilla-pod to mount it to my pack/PFD/Raft.

Several months ago when winter was fading but the heat of summer hadn’t yet crossed our minds, we woke one weekend with hopes of getting out and riding bikes on our backyard trails.

The trails had been clear of snow for a ~week, but only just, and the warming daytime temps meant that riding on dirt needed to be done (like finished) before 9AM. Otherwise you’d wreck bike and trail by trying to ride in the mud.

On this particular morning we woke late, and to fog, and it flurried off and on as we breakfasted while discussing options.

As much as we wanted to pedal, to shake off the lethargy of winter, it seemed like a poor choice. Mud is no joke here–as you’ll see in the vid.

So we loaded packs with boats and hiked an old road, met up with the Gunnison River, then floated back to town.

A slightly-too-leisurely start to the day meant we floated the last ~10 minutes in darkness.

Walking roads and floating flatwater never give the same satisfaction, those feelings of athleticism and accomplishment, that you get from riding tech trail or paddling whitewater.

But they beat the hell out of staying home and doing nothing.

Thanks for checkin’ in.
