Good luck packrafting everyone and please be safe. Parts of the Western United States have not had this amount of water since the advent of the modern packraft (circa 2000). So, conditions in some areas may have increased in intensity, and as a community we need to up our safety vigilance as well.
It is a good time for to revisit Luc Mehl’s wisdom on creating a culture of safety with our plans for packrafting groups to “start and end at home.” If you have not taken a swiftwater course, I highly encourage you and everyone to do so. The courses are as fun as any expedition that I have done and it has provided a better foundation to handle the inevitable problems that arise.
