My wife and I will be visiting the Florida Keys this year and planning to do some packrafting at the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge near Sugarloaf Key…we have mapped a few routes to consider depending on wind on the day of and will primarily be in mangrove creeks or island hopping and avoiding any significant open water crossings…interested in any safety/gear advice folks have to offer up as this will be my first salt water excursion

Did you end up going on this trip by chance? Sounds fun!
I modified to make it safe without much effort or time invested in planning. Rented a boat and took it out to the “mud keys” and practically got lost paddling all the amazing tiny river like cuts through the mangrove islands and then another day paddled several miles along the southern coast to the coast guard base and southern most point in the US and then back to my put in…open ocean Packrafting is serious business…You need next to no wind…and it has to be in a direction that fits your planned route. Have fun!
