Escalante 2025 Flows

Howdy y’all,

My group is planning to float the Escalante River next week from Fence to Coyote. Things don’t look promising, but we’ve heard reports that it’s doable at much lower levels (.7 cfs) than people let on. Fortunately, we have a plan B and are happy to be in Escalante regardless.

Escalante Gauge has been showing .6-.8 consistently for the past week. Widstoe #3 and Clayton Springs snotels are showing no snow, and Sunflower Flat is hanging on to 6 inches which will be gone in a matter of days. If all the snow has melted, is there even a chance without some precipitation?

I’ve spent many hours going through reports and data; honestly, I don’t expect it to go in the slightest, but my group is insistent that there’s a chance.

I’m curious on your more educated opinions.

We did it two weeks ago - Apr. 5 → Apr.9 - 1.24cfs (usgs.gov) when we started. (Fence to Coyote-J.Hamblin).

Nice, how was the float? Quite worthwhile or was it a PITA?

It was worthwhile - we visited (hike) side canyons , even made it up to StevensArch. I would says if you already have it planned out, don’t bail! I will try to upload a video to youtube this week and share it here.
