My husband and I are flying from Montana to a wedding in Iceland this October. We extended our trip to 2 weeks with the hope of doing at least one, multi-day packrafting loop. However, it has been challenging to gather information about backcountry conditions in Iceland for October. Any advice from folks who know the area - rivers, backpacking loops - and time of year? We’re planning for very cold weather and lower flows due to the time of year, and leaning toward mellower water on bigger streams for the same reasons. There will also be the issue of many backcountry roads being closed for the season… Thanks for any help that you can give!
I would not worry about low flow. Many of the river in Iceland a glacier fed and beside that they have a very wet climate all year around with low pressure systems and rain constantly coming in from the Atlantic.
