My buddy and I are looking for a beginner’s trip this morning (a little late posting this) in the Palmer-Wasilla area. I have packrafted a little but he hasn’t. We were going to float the Knik R just to get him used to the packraft, but I was hoping there was a little class II somewhere close by that he could get the feel for some non-green water. I’ll be checking in until about 9 am.

I am looking to improve my whitewater packrafting skills. I have the old Yak retrofitted with a spray deck. I have only used it seriously with a backpack on the Marsh Fork of the Canning.
What is a good progression of rivers around Anch/Mat-Su area for ramping up my whitewater skills? I am a little intimidated by the Little Su since I haven’t had much ww experience in a packraft.
Start at Shirely Town on Willow Creek(class II) take out on Michelle Drive, then progress to the redgate run (class II+).
The Little Su is class IV, and is also nearly unrunnable at the current low water levels
Are Shirely Town and Redgate put-in and take out obvious?
