Nugget Creek, Juneau

Ray and I ran mid upper nugget today. Took East Glacier trail up to just under the first waterfall and walked a steep creek down to Nugget. First Rapid, Bumble Rock, was steep creek style…class III. Think wide Peterson style rock hopping. Then short rumble of Class II, followed by 2 miles or so of Class I. Expect wood. Awesome views of Bullard and Heizlmen. Take out at the obvious horizon line of the damn before steep rapids ending in Nugget Falls.

Mendenhall was running just under 5 ft. Nugget was boney. Would not really be able to paddle river with less water. This is an easy paddle for beginners and offers some of the most beautiful scenery in Juneau.
