Record levels on the SF Flathead, is the gage right?

05/07/2018

I’m looking at the levels on the South Fork at Twin Cr. (essentially Spotted Bear) and it’s showing 17,600cfs. Either the gage is not functioning properly or that’s 3,600 cfs OVER the record as I read it.

There was a gauge height/flow calibration performed just last month. It’s still provisional data at this point until the next measurement, but likely pretty close to accurate.

Near record snowpack + Near record high temps = flows you are seeing

It was a rhetorical question meant to elicit responses like, “Man, that’s awesome. This is going to be a great year!”

Didn’t really expect, “the snow pack is melting because it’s warming and that means water in the river.” I think we all got that. But thanks anyway.
